INVITATION- 7th Class Graduation of Sewing School, Feb 24 2012

We are proud of these 28 young women who have worked hard, learning how to measure, to make and use patterns, to embroider and to work with different types of cloth. In addition to learning to sew, they study Khmer, basic math, life skills, cultures, Buddhist morality and basic business skills. They live in a rented house and share cooking and cleaning duties. They will leave the Sewing School with new skills and friendships and on graduation each student will receive a sewing machine and a start-up kit, so they can support themselves and their families.

The Sewing School was established in 2007 as a joint venture between Life and Hope Association and Hôtel de la Paix. So far, six classes with 130 disadvantaged young women have graduated, and they are now independently earning a living with their sewing skills. The forthcoming graduates are ready to start their own lives like those of the previous classes.  At least three options are available for them:  starting up a small business back home, getting available jobs in Siem Reap through LHA's networks, and working with the LHA-production shop.

We, the Life and Hope Association, are committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing loving support and access to education to the poorest and most vulnerable people in Cambodia - especially children and young women.
