Hotel de la Paix – LHA Sewing School is under construction
Monday, December 27, 2010
In December, LHA started
the construction of a new sewing training center. The construction
is sponsored by Hotel de la Paix and Master Card and should be
completed in about three months.
Sewing training center was first opened in 2006 and was sponsored by Hotel de la Paix, Rice for Cambodia, Master Card and other generous friends of LHA. Since 2006, six classes graduated from the school - in total, 130 students.
Because the building was constructed entirely from wood and because LHA did not have a trained architect at that time, the roof and the walls started leaking and the center was constantly flooded with water.
Apart from addressing these problems, the new building will be much bigger - two levels instead of one, so both the students attending the course and the graduates working on site will have more space. There will also be a teacher's room/office, bathrooms and room for storage.
The construction is carried out by local workers and supervised by ASMA (company based in Siem Reap and Paris) architects. Until the construction is completed, the girls continue working on the premises of the Foreign Language School.
