On Saturday, 2 April 2011, a new high school was
opened in Samrong village, located about 33km northeast from Siem
Reap in Knar Pour commune, Sotnie Kom distrcit.
The construction of the school was sponsored by American International School in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and facilitated by Go Campaign, a non-profit NGO based in California, USA, and Life and Hope Association.
Initially the sponsor wanted to build a school in Malawi, Africa, but due to the lack of information and connections, it was decided to do the project in Cambodia. There is no difference, where the children that you help are living, said Scott Fifer, the president of Go Campaign. They are all deserving.
There was no high school in the village before. Students wishing to continue their education beyond grade 9, had to travel 10km to reach the closest school. The new school will be run by the government. It will have over 200 students studying at grade 10. Grades 11 and 12 will be added in the following years.
